Tokoroa Dog Training Club is run by a group of friendly people, who like you have a passion for their 4 legged friends, and enjoy working and playing with them.

What we offer...

Below is some of the fun and exciting classes in which you can become a part of with our dog club

Beginners Obedience - $50 - This is for a 7 week term

During this term you will be teaching your dog to:

Sit

Lie Down

Walk nicely on lead

Come when called

Sit Stay

Down Stay

This beginners class also covers dog behaviour - i.e How can you correct behaviour that is a problem, what's the best way to greet another dog, how can you make sure you and your family are the "top of the pack"

At the end of each class you are given hand outs to take home that list what the class has covered, things to practise and articles on dog behaviour

Who can enrol in this class?

This class is open to all dogs that are fully vaccinated. (From approximately 3-4 months old)

No matter what the breed or the age of your dog. There are no dogs too old to learn!!

So what do you need to bring?

*Your dog on a collar and lead

*Plastic bag - all handlers need to pick up after their dogs

*Pocket full of treats - Something small like chopped up pieces of luncheon, cheese, smackoos. Anything that your dog really likes to eat, as long as it is small and very quickly eaten.

*Good shoes - Something comfortable as there will be walking involved

*Your dog's vaccination card 

Advanced Obedience - Canine Good Citizen Certificate - $50         This is for a 7 week term.

This class is only held if we have enough people wanting to do this class. 

During this term you will be covering:

*Controlled walk - Walking with your dog - not your dog walking you!

*Heeling through a crowd - Having a dog that can walk amongst pedestrian traffic with good manners

*Meet another dog - Having a dog that can behave politely around other dogs

*Stay in position - Having a dog that can remain calmly in a position

*Vet Examination - Having a dog that is willing to have someone examine head, eyes, ears, teeth and feet

*Meal time manners - Having a dog with good manners around their food

*Recall - Having a dog come when called from a distance

*Road Safety - Having a dog that is controlled when leaving a vehicle

*Article Posetion - Having a dog that will willingly give back items and toys

*Ignoring a Stranger - Having a dog that is calm when the handler speaks to a stranger

*Reaction to distractions - Can your dog behave around bicycles, skate boards, umbrellas etc

*Tolerance to Separation - Can your dog wait patiently for you when tied up

*Grooming - Tolerance to grooming and nail clipping

*Stand on Command

 

Who can enrol in this class?

This class is open to all dogs and handlers that have previously completed the beginners class. 

 

So what do you need to bring?

*Your dog on a collar and lead

*Plastic bag - all handlers need to pick up after their dogs

*Pocket full of treats - Something small like chopped up pieces of luncheon, cheese, smackoos. Anything that your dog really likes to eat, as long as it is small and very quickly eaten.

*Good shoes - Something comfortable as there will be walking involved

*Your dog's vaccination card

*During the term you will need to bring items like food bowls, brush for the dog, a toy or article your dog likes to carry around so that you can complete some of the tests. You will be advised when you need to bring these things as the term progresses.

 This certificate may take more than a term to complete depending on training at home and behaviour of dog

Flyball Class - We will not be holding this class for Term 4 2013

Flygility is all about dogs running to retrieve a tennis ball and bring it back to you - Of course they have to go over jumps and go through tunnels on the way there and on the way back to you!

Once a dog is trained to do this, they then can move on to racing another dog that is in another lane. Fastest dog moves onto the next race.

Flyball is all about the dog - You don't have to run with your dog, they do it alone.

Its loads of fun for both you and your dog

 

During this term you will be:

*Teaching your dog to hit the flyball box to retrieve a tennis ball

*Teaching your dog to go through tunnels

*Teaching your dog to go over jumps

*Teaching your dog to go over obstacles and retrieve a ball and bring it back to you.

 Who can enrol in this class?

*Any dog that is over the age of 12 months can enrol.

*Dogs must be able to be called back to handlers easily

*Dogs must be social - i.e no aggressive dogs

*Any dog that is keen on tennis balls is a bonus, but dogs can be taught to love tennis balls

 So what do you need to bring? 

*Your dog on a collar and lead

*Plastic bag - all handlers need to pick up after their dogs

*Pocket full of treats or a toy - Something small like chopped up pieces of luncheon, cheese, smackoos. Anything that your dog really likes to eat, as long as it is small and very quickly eaten.

*Good shoes - Something comfortable as there will be walking involved

*Your dog's vaccination card

 

Beginners Agility -

During this term you will be:

*Given an introduction to agility and what its all about

*Teaching your dog to complete obstacles

*Obstacles are - Tunnels, jumps, hoops, weaves, A Frames, Dog Walks, Cross Overs, Long Jumps

 

Who can enrol in this class?

*Any dog that is over the age of 15 months can enrol.

*Dogs must be able to be called back to handlers easily

*Dogs must be social - i.e no aggressive dogs

*Ideally the dog will have completed a beginners obedience class. Dogs that have not completed this course will be permitted to enter agility classes if the agility instructor has declared the dog suitable

 

So what do you need to bring?

*Your dog on a collar and lead

*Plastic bag - all handlers need to pick up after their dogs

*Pocket full of treats or a toy

*Good shoes - Something comfortable as there will be running involved

*Your dog's vaccination card

 

 

Intermediate Agility -

During this term you will be:

Advancing on from beginners term - Training more of the gear, the way to handle your dog and improve in team work

 

Who can enrol in this class?

*Any dog that has completed a beginners term of agility

 

Rally-O

We have members who compete in Rally-Obedience. If agility and flygility is not for you and your dog - maybe Rally-O is.
